NOOOO NO NO NONO FUCK FUCK FUCKIG CBS IS TELLING WOMEN NOT TO REPORT SEXUAL HARASSMENT BECAUSE IT WILL “DAMAGE THEIR CAREERS” and “HARASSMENT IS AN UNFORTUNATE PART OF CLIMBING THE LADDER” I AM SO ANGRY THEY ARE LITERALLY TURNING SEXUAL HARASSMENT INTO A NORM THIS IS NOT OKAY
This is an actual article and I’m still having a hard time believing it’s real.
What the actual fuck
"(For those of you who want below-the-knee skirts at work, please note that this is the same analysis to support the wearing of a Burka: men can’t control themselves so women need to cover up.)"
Fuck off into the depths of hell
We have double standards. There are different sets of questions we have to ask at different times. I won’t weigh in on the CBS issue tonight. However, as for skirts and lengths of skirts I think it’s a rather unproductive discussion. We should have a universal standard for business attire: everyone wears a suit of some kind. Or everyone wears skirts. Or shorts. Or (call me crazy) denim!
Otherwise, if women wear skirts, men should minimally be able to wear shorts. This is a double standard and it hurts both genders in different (and, granted, unequal) ways. This is not identical with the problem of burkas, though perhaps related. Also not identical with victim-blaming or saying men can’t help themselves.
Men “cover up” in the workplace far more than women and no one cries foul about male attire. Those of you who read me regularly, both here and on Facebook, know that I have a record of standing up for an egalitarian society. But, speaking as an ally, you need to clarify the logic of your arguments here.
Also, please help me sharpen my own! I welcome your feedback.
